Geography
- The Ancient Egyptians thought of Egypt to be divided into two lands: the 'black land' and the 'red land'.
- The 'black land' was the side of Egypt that the Nile River was on, this side had all of the fertile land was. Farmers grew crops here as this was the only place that could be planted. The land was rich with black silt which the Nile deposited every year when it flooded.
- The 'red land' was the barren desert that protected Egypt on two sides. These deserts helped fend off invading armies that were coming into Egypt. The deserts also helped the Egyptians find precious metals and semi-precious stones.
